A C Johns Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

A.C. Johns, 91 of Russellville, Tennessee was reunited with his wife when he died peacefully at Jefferson City Health and Rehabilitation Center on August 28, 2019. A.C. was born on September 7, 1927 in Claiborne County, TN to Marshall and Lula Johns. In 1950 he was drafted into the Army and served 21 months in the Korean War where he was wounded in battle and was awarded the Purple Heart. He also received the UN Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge and the Korean Service Medal with the Bronze Star. He was discharged with full honors in 1952. A.C. was a brave and loyal soldier; he was a patient man, loving husband, father, grandfather and recently, great grandfather. He married Phyllis Gay Henard in 1952 and they were married 58 years before preceding him in death in 2010. A.C. retired from the Coca-Cola Bottling Company in 1990 after a successful 37 year career with the company. He is survived by his daughters Debbie Johns of Knoxville, Pamela Bowman of Morristown, his son Mark and Tonya Johns of Morristown; grandchildren, Christopher Bowman, Hawk and Sarah Bowman, Manoah Bowman (Payton Sutherland), Jairus Johns and Josie Helton; great grandchildren River Seals and Everly Bowman. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM on Friday, Aug. 30 at Mayes Mortuary. Funeral services will follow with Rev. David Williams officiating. Committal service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 31 in Hamblen Memory Gardens at 12:00 Noon with Military Honors provided by the Tennessee National Guard and VFW Post 5266. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hillcrest Baptist Church, 410 S Liberty Hill Rd, Morristown, TN 37813.
