William Glenn Hicks

October 8, 1926 - December 12, 2008

William "Bill" Glenn Hicks, 82, of Bluff City, died Friday, Dec. 12, 2008, at NHC HealthCare in Johnson City. A native of the Chinquapin Grove area of Bluff City and the son of the late John Elbert and Nora Combs Hicks, he moved to Morristown in 1952 where he lived for 48 years. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from BASF in 1988. He was a member of Chinquapin Grove Baptist Church in Bluff City and a former member and deacon of Bethel Baptist Church in Morristown. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Phillip David Hicks; a brother, Gaines Evans Hicks; a sister, Ollie Hicks Beckett; and an infant sister. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Mary Frances Canter Hicks; a son, William "Butch" Glenn Hicks, Jr. and wife, Patti, of Clifton, Virginia; a daughter, Janet Glover and husband, Greg, of Bluff City; a grandson, Brian Hicks of Centreville, Virginia; a grandson, Allen Glover of Bluff City; a brother, John Elbert Hicks, Jr. and wife, Anna Lee, of Bluff City; two nieces; and a nephew. The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008, at Mayes Family Services in Morristown. The funeral will follow at 6:15 p.m. with Rev. Jamie Ferguson and Rev. Scott Greene officiating. A graveside service will be held Monday, Dec. 15, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Morristown with Rev. James Williams officiating. Pallbearers will be Greg Glover, Allen Glover, Raymond Martin, Eddie Helton, Mark Blevins, and Ed McDuffie. Memorials may be made to the Chinquapin Grove Baptist Church Building Fund in Bluff City or the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery Fund in Morristown.
