Larry Lay Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Philip Larry Lay, 75, went to his heavenly home with his family by his side July 1, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents Elmer and Beatrice Lay, father and mother-in-law Fred and Edie Smith, his sister Mary Jo Foust, and brother and sister-in-law Mike and Susan Keener. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Carol Ann Lay; his children Jack (Traci) Lay, Lisa (Dale) Lewis, and Jason (Katie) Lay; his favorite thing: his grandchildren Mia Lay, Kyle and Lila Lewis, and Natalie and Josh Lay; his nieces and nephews Wendy and Shane Foust, Lee, Andrew and David Keener; and his special “sweetheart” Timberlie Cate Carlyle. Larry graduated from Rockwood High School and Carson Newman College. He was a member of the Carson Newman Team of the Century for his outstanding ability on the football field. Larry’s passion for sports was huge, known to many as simply “Coach.” Larry was a teacher and coach at Morristown Junior High, Meadowview, and Morristown East High School. He finished his career in sales with Clayton Homes. During his retirement he loved watching his grandchildren play sports. He loved being at home on the lake. He loved to laugh and be around friends. We know he is dancing and smiling in heaven! The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Friday, July 8, 2022, at Manley Baptist Church, with funeral services to follow at 7:00 pm. Pastor Tony Buchanon and Pastor Alan Duncan will officiate the services. A memorial graveside will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, July 9, 2022, at Hamblen Memory Gardens. The family wishes to give special thanks to Caris Hospice for the special care and love given. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Manley Baptist Church Building Fund. Arrangements are entrusted to Mayes Mortuary of Morristown.
